Getting it down while it is close

People often find the specifics are the first thing to go — not the broad shape of an experience, usually, but an image, a phrase, the exact feeling of a moment. If any part of this might matter to you later, writing a little of it down while it is still close tends to hold more than trying to reconstruct it in a week.

This doesn’t need to be organized or complete. A sentence, a list of words, a description of one image — any of it is enough to leave a trace for later.

If you’d rather not write anything, that’s a complete choice too. Nothing here is owed.
